TOWNSHIP 28

The developer and architect enlisted our help to design an apartment complex that would feel modern and clean while still capturing the charm of historic row houses. At the heart of the complex, the community center and offices would serve as a gathering space, and we were tasked with creating an eclectic interior paired with an exterior that evokes the familiar warmth of a neighborhood corner store.

To honor the area’s industrial and commercial past, which preceded its recent redevelopment, we selected polished concrete floors, exposed brick, storefront-style glass, and an open truss ceiling. The bright, airy interior was furnished with an eclectic mix of seating and accent pieces, blending modern design with industrial and reclaimed elements. Distressed leather, reclaimed wood, and forged iron details were balanced with vibrant rugs and polished metal accents, creating a space that feels both contemporary and rooted in history. Historic photographs of the neighborhood were enlarged and displayed throughout, serving as dramatic visual statements that connect the design to the area’s unique story.
