This quilt is an original work created in March 2020 as a reaction to the anxiety caused by Covid-19. The round designs mimic the Covid-19 spike protein through a traditional Dresden plate. The quilt mimics a weighted blanket and weighs over 10 pounds. This functional work was created to turn fear into something soothing and safe.
The Mend was created using a variety of cotton fabrics through an impromptu, intuitive design process. The artist sews sections of the work, then cuts into fragments and recombines. Overtime this creates rhythm, movement and negative space. The work emerges in an impromptu fashion. It is then quilted to create texture with clear thread.
