Project Statement: With a friendship spanning nearly four decades, Doug Erb and Barry Phipps have shared similar creative disciplines. Both attended art school, played in bands, painted, drawn, photographed and more. Their desire to work as multimedia artists has been instrumental in learning how to apply different disciplines to inform their overall vision of artistry. It’s what connects these forms, their commonality, that is at the heart of their work.
Working collaboratively for the first time, this artwork was mailed back and forth during the process from Iowa to Missouri. Erb’s creative process involved pen and ink artwork. Phipps then conceptually intervened, to disrupt a course of action to transform, yet not destroy the original intent of Erb’s interpolation of a Beatles’ White Album cover.
