The Origin of JKM HomeColby Morrell
The more time you invest into studying the design industry, the more you will come to realize that all great designers seemed to have been destined to be designers since birth. It’s almost as if the angels from above blessed some little babies with timeless good taste and a sense of harmony. Well, that may be extreme, but the idea holds up.
When it comes to J. Kent Martin, good taste is in his genes, though if you ask his mother she isn’t quite sure where that trait come from. In his early years he was always drawing and creating things. It’s no surprise to his mother that he has been in the furniture and design business since he was a teenager.
The J.KM Home originates with J. and Nathan Taylor starting a sourcing company about ten years ago. During that time, J. designed private label product for major retailers. It was only natural that J. would end up designing his own furniture line.
J. believes strongly in incorporating beautiful detail with hand-crafted furniture. The distinction between his line and others is accomplished by the result of careful design choices. The JKM Home line showcases the beauty of kiln dried hardwoods and exotic wood veneers that are plantation grown making each piece truly stand out.
The source of the materials comes from the Philippines, where J. has had close relationships with for many years. The Philippines are home to one of J.’s offices and many good friends that have become family. The decision to use this area as an integral part of the line was easy.
When you think about the origin of something you can’t neglect the journey. Right now, we are looking forward to continuing the journey of JKM Home with excited eyes. Cheers.
