Never Fail Color CombosColby Morrell
We write a lot about color here on the blog, but this topic is where most of our client’s get stuck before contacting us. Color can be scary, especially when it goes beyond painting a wall. To help those of you who are stuck, here are a few of our favorite color schemes that you will not only love, but they will also stand the test of time.
Gray has many faces and multiple personalities. When it is paired with white the effect created is a classic and clean look that is anything but sterile. Adding in a darker hues, such as charcoal black, adds depth and contrast. We recommend this scheme in bright rooms that have lots of natural light.
Orange + Blue + Gray
This was the perfect color combo for this client’s child’s room, but it can be used anywhere in a home for a mature look as well. Orange tones are a great color to bring in for an earthy yet bright space. Different hues of blue work wonderfully together as well, creating a land and sky vibe.
Cobalt + Turquoise + Bright Greens
Blue is definitely the new black when it comes to interiors! This color combo creates a vibrant space with lots of energy. We love this look for clients who aren’t afraid of color, but also want to keep things looking luxurious without venturing into garish territory.
Silvers + Whites
This soothing color combination is perfect for spaces that you want to feel relaxing. We love it for the bedroom and bathrooms. The key to pulling of any monochromatic color scheme is texture and pattern. The wallpaper pattern adds visual interest and compliments the bedding we selected – keeping the space zen without feeling boring.
Deep Reds + Soft White + Blues
If you’re looking for a romantic feeling from a space, then red is the direction to go. To avoid looking like the Fourth of July, opt for deep and rich reds like we did above. Add soft whites as a neutral to balance the darkness of the red, and throw in a pop of sky blue!
Beige + White + Gold
Neutrals don’t have to be boring and basic. In this client’s master bathroom we created a space that looks luxurious and relaxing. This color scheme is perfect not just for the bathroom, but any room in the house!
Violet + Turquoise + Fuchsia
If you’re brave enough to go bold, you won’t regret it. This family room we designed for a client is colorful but grounded. The dark purple walls make the large room feel cozy while the turquoise touches add vibrancy. To add an extra poc (that’s how the coolest designers say “pop of color” ha) our team contrasted the other colors in the room with shades of bright pink.
Gray + White + Earthy Green
This is one of the easiest color combinations to pull off. Because gray is a neutral color that most people love, it can seem overused unless you spice it up a bit with a contrasting color. In this home, we paired it with earthy green tones that give the space depth. We love this look for a masculine feel.
Black + Red + White
Successfully pulling this combo off is all about restraint. Black and white are classic together, but sometimes feel a little uninspiring. We jazzed up the scheme by introducing the fire engine red bar stools and other small touches throughout this kitchen. Anymore red would have been overwhelming – in this case less is more.
