It intrigues me how something seen everyday or used frequently can be passed over by the eye without interest. We become accustomed to such things and forget their value. When that everyday object is drawn or painted I find a newly found appreciation for that item. The art now begins to be fun because it takes on a sense of purpose, reminding us of the little values in life.
In our day of technology and ever changing ideas it seems to me that the world is moving to fast. Drawing is a way of slowing down, stopping for a second and living in the moment. My art has taught me that real riches are of the soul and character. In some ways I hope this joy can be passed on to you.
As I am currently working towards my Masters degree, I am interested in finding a purpose for painting in today's society. My work deals strongly with people. I am looking for the characteristics that make us who we are as individuals. This is some ground work for my thesis.
