Nature is my escape from the chaos of the world and my greatest source of inspiration. I enjoy venturing out and finding my way through obstacles that confront me; rock formations, dense foliage, bodies of water, etc. My current work is a study of our interactions with spaces (and within them) revealing patterns, inter-relationships, and common themes that attempts to create a unique visual experience. My work is a chronicle of how I interacted with the space. By recording my own movements I hope to define the viewer's role as observer/participant within a given system.
My sculptures are a way to connect with and reflect upon time and place as it relates to the spaces I move through. I am interested in creating work that can be read as a record of time, as well as a venue for the viewer to interact with the spaces I have moved through. I see my work as a parallel to how one would move through a space; everyone's experience will be a little different depending on time, the individual, or the path nature forced you to take. It is a record of my interaction with a place or object. We all leave an impact on places we have been. Some of these are fleeting while others have permanence.
These pieces are as much a physical journey as the hike which inspired them. Through the labor involved in re-creating my journeys through the space, I re-live the physical journey I took. My chosen media is the means through which I create a more lasting record of my experience; it will outlast the foot prints and memories.
